E-2, Treaty Investor
E-2 investor visas permit foreign nationals to enter the United States in order to direct and develop a commercial enterprise or business in which they have invested a substantial amount of money or capital. Foreign nationals wishing to obtain E-2 visas must be a citizen of a country with which the U.S. has a treaty of commerce.
E2 visa holders must make an active and substantial investment as well as perform an essential role in the enterprise that results in the creation of job opportunities for US workers. Qualified treaty investors and employees will be allowed a maximum initial stay of two years. Requests for extension of stay may be granted in increments of up to two years each.
There is no maximum limit to the number of extensions an E-2 nonimmigrant may be granted.
